A 24-year-old woman has died of swine flu here taking the death toll due to the deadly virus in the national capital to 12.
According to Delhi government officials, the woman died at Baba Saheb Ambedkar hospital but only after she had delivered a baby at a private hospital.
Also, 15 people out of 63 people, tested positive for swine flu today as the total number of cases in Delhi mounted to 4,084.
"This pregnant woman was admitted to a private hospital in Shalimar Bagh for delivery. She also had symptoms of respiratory distress and her samples were sent for testing and she tested positive for the disease.
"Meanwhile she also delivered a baby at the hospital after which she was shifted to Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital on February 23 for the treatment of H1N1 influenza virus. On March 9 she succumbed to the disease," Charan Singh, nodal officer for swine flu in Delhi's Health Department, said.
According to Singh, Delhi government's committee to analyse swine flu cases, further sent her samples for testing at the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and after deliberations it was concluded that she died due to swine flu.
However, according to experts in the city, cases of swine flu are on the decline.
Randeep Guleria, head of Pulmonary Medicine Department at the AIIMS, said that swine flu cases will subside in the next 2-3 weeks because of soaring mercury.
"Over the last few days, though the temperature has been fluctuating due to unseasonal rains, but on an average it has shown an upward trend, because of which cases are on the decline. Even in OPD we are seeing less patients.
"If we see the government of India figures of the last few weeks, then we will see that there is already a decline in number of H1N1 cases and mortality. It is quite likely that they will subside more in the next 2-3 weeks," Guleria said.
