The incident happened yesterday at Sikka village in Shamli district, they said.
The accused, identified as Ashok Kumar entered the girl's house when she was alone and tried to rape her, they added.
The neighbours of the girl, who came rushing in after hearing the minor's cries, nabbed the accused and later handed him over to the police, police said, adding a case has been registered against the accused.
In another incident, a woman allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze near here, police said today.
Sanjida was worried over her husband's illness, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shelender Kumar said.
