District Youth Congress general secretary, Jagdish Mehar (35) was shot at last evening when he was travelling in his jeep, they said.
The assailants after attacking Mehar fled from the spot in the leader's four-wheeler.
Mehar died on the spot, after he was attacked with a knife too.
According to medical reports, three bullets were found in his body besides a knife injury.
A case of murder has been registered in this regard and further investigations are on, police added.
