A group of youths today demonstrated here demanding an increase in the upper age limit for entry into all government jobs in Odisha, police said.
The job aspirants from across the state under the banner of 'Asaayi Chatra Chatri Parishad', took out a rally in support of their demand to raise the upper age limit from 32 to 42 years.
"Around 2.6 lakh graduates are waiting for jobs after completing their graduation in 2016. If the state government doesn't increase the age limit, we will intensify our protest at the district level in the days ahead," Girija Shankar Jena, the convenor of 'Asaayi Chatra Chatri Parishad' said.
Telangana and Goa governments have set the upper age limit at 44 and 45 respectively, and Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand have also increased the upper age level for entry into government jobs to 42 years, Jena claimed.
He also claimed that other states such as West Bengal, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Tripura have set their age limit at 40 years while it is still 32 years in Odisha.
Later, a four-member delegation submitted their charter of demands to the chief minsters office, a police officer said.
