A conductor of Haryana Roadways bus was grievously injured when a group of youth allegedly attacked him with lathis after he stopped them from teasing a group of college girl students in the vehicle, police said today.
Following the incident, which happened yesterday near Buwani Khera Octroi in the district, Haryana Roadways Workers Union threatened to go on a strike but withdrew, after the arrest of four youth in the case.
According to police, some youth were allegedly following a group of girl students, who boarded the bus near their college here after taking their examination in the evening on Wednesday last.
The youths also boarded the bus and were allegedly passing lewd remarks and even started playing music on their mobiles on high volume.
When the bus conductor Vikram intervened and asked them to stop teasing the girls, the youth rebuked him. They also did not show their "students pass" nor did they bother to purchase a ticket, the conductor alleged.
Following Vikram's intervention, they threatened him and got down from the bus near a village, police said.
Yesterday, the youths forcibly stopped the same bus when it was passing near Buwani Khera Octroi and allegedly beat Vikram with lathis. Vikram was rushed to the hospital.
Later, police recovered lathis and a knife from the spot.
After the incident, Haryana Roadways Workers Union had threatened to go on a strike, but withdrew its ultimatum today following the arrest of the four youths in the case.
A Union leader said after the recent incident in Rohtak inside a bus involving two girls, the Manohar Lal Khattar government had asked driver and conductors to help hapless women passengers if they were being eve teased.
"Who is going to guarantee our safety when we help the victim, but get thrashed by the accused," he said.
