"As per the Supreme Court order of September 2011, SIT chairman had to file the final report of investigation into the complaint of Zakia Jafri before the Metropolitan court. Instead, an officer who is a Deputy Commissioner of Police of crime branch has filed the report. This is a violation of SC order and amounts to contempt of the court," said advocate S M Vora.
Vora was arguing before Magistrate B J Ganatra, in whose court SIT filed its closure report on Zakia's complaint against Chief Minister Narendra Modi and 62 others for conspiring and abetting the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Presently, Zakia has filed an application demanding copies of several missing or illegible documents handed over by the SIT with its final report.
Earlier, SIT lawyer R S Jamuver had alleged that social activist Teesta had committed contempt of court with regard to an affidavit filed by her on Zakia's behalf.
"The way Teesta has filed an affidavit on August 8, 2012 shows that Teesta and Zakia are making mockery of judicial process," he said, pointing out contradictions in affirmation and attestation in the affidavit.
Today, Vora accused SIT of shielding Narendra Modi and high-ranking police officers. "Following the plea of Zakia and other victims of 2002 violence, who clearly expressed doubts about Gujarat police, Supreme Court ordered the constitution of SIT with non-Gujarati members," he said. (More)
