A zebra escaped from its enclosure at Alipore Zoo here only to be captured later in the morning today.
The five-year old male zebra, which was brought to the zoo from Israel in 2010, was found missing from its enclosure at around 8 A.M., said Alipore Zoo director KL Ghosh.
A search was immediately launched by the zoo staff who finally located the animal within the campus itself and put it back inside a large, separate enclosure.
Ghosh said that the zebra had been undergoing treatment for a bite by its female partner.
An internal inquiry has been launched to find out how the zebra escaped, Ghosh said.
