Taking a leaf out of Star India's branding book, Zee Group's Ten Sports Network has embarked on a similar rebranding exercise by rechristening existing bouquet of channels as Ten1, Ten2, Ten3 and Ten 1HD.
The network will be doing away with sport-specific channels and will rebrand them in numeric series -- Ten Sports as Ten1, Ten Action as Ten2, Ten Cricket as Ten3 and Ten HD as Ten1 HD, the company said in a statement.
The golf-specific channel Ten Golf HD, however, will continue to have the present name.
The network will also be spreading content equally amongst all the channels post-rebranding.
It can be recalled that a few years back, the 21st Century Fox-owned Star had rebranded its sports network to bring it under one identity and had named its channels as Star Sports1, 2, 3, and 4 and Star Sports HD1 and HD2.
"In August 2015, we embarked on a new journey with the launch of a consolidated network rebranding - the Ten Sports Network, as well as the launch of Ten Golf HD.
"Our rebranding effort signals the start of a new era, a contemporary and energised approach to how the network views its sport sphere, with maximum excitement and engagement for its viewers," Ten Sports Network global chief executive Rajesh Sethi said in a statement.
With long-term broadcasting rights to the WWE, Ten 1 will focus on WWE weekly shows and specials, while Ten 2 will focus on UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and other football content. It will also telecast the US Open, Moto GP and Tour de France.
Ten 3's primary focus will be cricket from South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the West Indies and Zimbabwe, as the network has long-term broadcast rights with these five cricket boards.
"As we bring across a variety of sports and sportainment
for our viewers from across the world, at times it becomes a hurdle to allocate content to a particular sports-specific channel.
"To break free from sports-specific channels, we are taking the numeric route. We strive to bring international quality sports to our viewers and we want them to watch sports as it is consumed internationally with numeric-based channels," Sethi said.
Ten Sports has already started producing content in Hindi and plans to expand into other regional languages as well, going ahead.
As a part of its rebranding exercise, Ten Sports will also roll out a new logo for Tensports.Com, which will showcase extensive live sports content with a special focus on video-on-demand.
The live streaming will include football content from UEFA Champions League and Europa League, including matches that are not broadcast on TV, as well as content from Ligue 1, I-League, cricket from across the five boards, tennis, golf, Moto GP.
Ten Sports has a reach over 140 million households across the globe, primarily in South Asia.
