The Brazilian government has been informed that China has opened an anti-dumping investigation against the country's chicken exporters, a source at the Foreign Ministry told Reuters on Friday.
The Brazilian government will defend chicken exporters in the Chinese case and will seek to ensure rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO) are strictly followed, the source said on condition of anonymity because the ministry has not issued an official statement.
The government will proceed cautiously to avoid disrupting relations with China ahead of an upcoming visit by President Michel Temer there for a multination summit of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries, said the source.
Officials from both countries will discuss the chicken anti-dumping matter next week, the source added.
