Two Congress members of Parliament (MPs) have been nominated as chairpersons of two sub-committees in the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Finance overseeing the drafting the new Sica and Companies Bill.
Both the bills are to be introduced in the next session of Parliament. The move is being seen in some quarters as one which will ensure a greater participation by the Congress in the reforms process.
Kamallidin Ahmed, the MP from Andhra Pradesh, is the chairperson of the committee looking into the drafting of the new Sica. According to government sources, the committee has invited public comments by October 15.
Former state minister D P Pal has been made the chairman of the sub-committee looking to draft the new Companies Bill.
The Standing Committee on Finance is a parliamentary body which takes a closer look at all bills that the government introduces in Parliament.
It is only after the committee clears the bills, that they are placed in the house. This way, it is ensured that there is a closer parliamentary scrutiny.
