The arrest of IAS officer and senior official of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), R K Ranga, charged with siphoning off wheat meant for the public distribution system (PDS) to the open market, is imminent with his repatriation to his parent cadre. Ranga, a 1976 batch IAS officer belonging to the Haryana cadre, was on deputation with the FCI. Though his petition for anticipatory bail was turned down by the court, he could not be arrested without the President's permission, according to the laws applicable for IAS officers. His repatriation to the parent state cadre has removed this hurdle.
