The clearances come more than a year after the various chains had applied to the Delhi administration seeking approval for setting up eating house establishments.
The multinationals who have been give the green signal include KFC for opening up one Pizza Hut outlet and a second Kentucky Fried chicken outlet, Thank God Its Friday (TGF) of the Carlsons Hospitality group for one outlet and McDonalds for setting up two outlets in the city.
Kentucky Fried Chicken, a Pepsi group company, will set up an outlet in Punjabi Bagh, Pizza Hut in an upmarket south Delhi locality and McDonalds in Green Park and Thank God its Friday in Vasant Vihar.
The licenses have to be granted by the police authorities as well the municipal corporation who authorise these organisations to run the establishments prescribing to certain health norms.
The Carlson group, which also runs the Radisson hotel chain, is also exploring possible alliances for another restaurant chain belonging to the same group, Country Kitchen, while KFC already has two outlets in the country one in Delhi and the other in Bangalore. The Garden City already has a Pizza Hut outlet.
McDonalds the world's largest food service organisation with a 1995 turnover of $30 billion, is entering India through two franchisees, one Central Plaza Restaurant promoted by Vikram Bakshi and Amit Jatia in Mumbai.
TGF is being brought to India by Punj Llyod which is the franchisee for India.
It is an informal dining chain which has been very popular in the US.
The group plans to set up another establishment in Mumbai very soon.
