The BJP and Maharashtravadi Gomantak Party (MGP) alliance has promised to raise the social security benefit for elderly from the current Rs 1,000 per month to Rs 2000, if voted to power.

Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar, who was addressing a public rally in Ponda town last evening said, the combine has listed out several socially beneficial measures in their election manifesto, which will be released in the next couple of days.

The Dayanand social security scheme initiated by Parrikar during his tenure as chief minister offers pension to elderly above 60 years, widows and the handicapped.

The BJP-MGP alliance has also promised to pay Rs 1,000 per month to women if they get elected. Parrikar said if the combine is given a popular mandate, it would ensure that social indicators in the state remain high.

"We will ensure that everyone gets benefit and there is proper development in the state. Congress rule has left state in financial and social shambles," Parrikar told the gathering.

Among other issues he raised was that of indisposed plastic waste and overhead power lines.

MGP president Dipak Dhavalikar said, "BJP-MGP are natural allies and are aiming to provide good governance to the people".

Out of total of 40 seats, BJP is contesting on 31 seats, MGP 8 and both the parties are supporting Independent Nirmala Sawant who is contesting from Cumbharjua constituency.
