After granting Rs 1,000 crore, the centre today said it would send a team of experts to conduct a survey of the devastation for the final relief package.

“We will provide all sorts of assistance to mitigate the sufferings of the affected people and soon a team of experts will conduct a survey also,” said union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, who flew into Dehradun to pay tributes to all those who lost their lives in the recent Air Force chopper crash.

Shinde said in addition to the relief package of Rs 1000 crore, the centre would provide financial help for the rehabilitation and reconstruction works.

Shinde said there had been excellent coordination between the different agencies involved in the rescue and relief operations and made it clear the defence helicopters will continue to operate 15 days more. On the fears of outbreak of epidemics in the state, Shinde said the centre is sending medical teams all the affected areas. He also said the centre would provide essential commodities and medicines to the people in flood-zones.

Last week, Prime Minister had announced a relief package of Rs 1000 crore for Uttarakhand.

Tourism minister K Chiranvjivee, who also accompanied Shinde to Derhadun, said the centre is also providing a separate package of Rs 100 crore for the revival of tourism sector which has come to a grinding halt in the state.

Shinde also held a meeting with chief minister Vijay Bahuguna to discuss the latest situation in the state. Ends
