Silver-haired Mayoh has directed an awesome range of television series and specials "" right from Channel 9s Kings of Comedy to The David Frost Show. Mayohs self-confessed weakness for live shows has resulted in spectaculars such as Channel 4s Rod Stewart in Concert, the 100 Club Blues Concert and the Three Tenors In Monte Carlo, with Zubin Mehta conducting Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingo.

Through a quirk of destiny, Mayoh also stumbled on a big find "" a struggling Hugh Grant and two friends were performing at the Edinburgh Festival. Mayoh liked the lad and The Jockeys of Norfolk debuted on Channel 4. The rest is celluloid history.

So what are the discoveries Mayoh is likely to make in India? Dressed in a natty earth-colour Nehru jacket, the irrepressible director is all praise for Siddharth Basu and Fahad Samar. He has roped them in to produce three game shows "" Aao Guess Karen, Jaane Kya Toone Kahi and Duniya Gol Hai.

Mayoh, who has worked in places as far apart as America,

Japan, Belgium, South Africa and Australia says: Technicians in India in terms of skill levels are very good. But the equipment

is dreadful. The amazing thing is that this does not stop them from creating brilliant sets, lighting... television magic.
