Bears returned late in yesterday's session at the Calcutta Stock Exchange, pushing the CSE-40 index down by around 24 points. The index closed down 23.89 points at 1881.97.
Jaiprakash Industries, ICICI, DSQ, HPCL, Grasim, Colgate and Digital Equipment were among the top gainers while Zee Telefilms, MTNL, Cochin Refineries, ICI, Sterlite and RIL were the major losers. The Jaiprakash counter experienced a 11.49 per cent rise in share price.
The DSQ scrip soared 5.35 per cent to Rs 657.50 (Rs 624.10) while ICICI closed at Rs 111.10, up 6.62 per cent over its previous closing of Rs 104.20. Grasim closed at Rs 241.50 (Rs 230) and Digital Equipment finished at Rs 685 (Rs 665.20).
Among the losers, Zee Telefilms closed at Rs 470.90, down 9.56 per cent over its Thursday's closing price of Rs 519.50 while MTNL lost 7.59 per cent to Rs 162. (Rs 175).
The bourse recorded an abysmally low turnover of Rs 634 crore through execution of 52,147 trades. The demat section posted a turnover of Rs 78.64 crore through 110 orders. The badla trading attracted 14,715 orders and recorded a trading of Rs 358.12 crore.
