New Library Policy

The centre would soon announce a new library policy to spread `library movement to every nook and corner of the country, the union human resources development minister, S R Bommai, said here today. Bommai said more funds would be provided in the ninth plan to strengthen the movement and make every rural school an instrument of knowledge by setting up modern library facilities. Regretting that about half of the people in the country were illiterate even 50 years after independence, he said the centre had decided to make education a fundamental right.
