German business software group SAP AG and Software AG said on Monday they have agreed to form a joint consulting company to assist in the installation of SAP's flagship R/3 software.

The R/3 software system controls the main functions of businesses such as accounting as well as material and personnel management and is the leading software system of this type.

The two companies said in a regulatory statement that SAP would hold 60 percent and Software AG 40 percent of the new company, to be called SAP Systems Integration GmbH (SAP-SI), which would be located in Alsbach. The new company must be approved by the Federal Cartel Office and plans to begin operations on April 1.It will train and advise SAP customers on R/3 technology. and its installation as well as provide training for users.
