Share prices moved erratically yesterday on the Calcutta Stock Exchange and the market appeared to lose direction initially when values ruled quiet. Subsequently there was a recovery on speculative buying only to retreat towards the close on emergence of fresh offerings, losing one point to close at 437.51 points.
With settlement due today due to holiday on Thursday, transactions were mostly squaring up deals. The turnover was moderate and undertone hesitant. Brokers said the market was awaiting the governments reforms package and bull operators were exercising caution to extend commitments on this score.
In the specified list ACC closed at Rs 1335 and Tisco at Rs 186 while ITC finished at Rs 396, L&T at Rs 236,SBI at Rs 275 and Reliance at Rs 238.50. Among other shares CESC was placed at Rs 65, Hind Motor at Rs 19.40, IPCL at Rs 118 and Jaiprakash at Rs 22.
In the non-specified list ITC Classic was quoted at Rs 41, Orkay at Rs 9 and Chambal Fertiliser at Rs 13.50 with UTI Master Plus at Rs 13.75.
