Calcutta-based TIL Ltd recently entered into an agreement with National Cranes of the US. The pact is for distribution of telescoping cranes, ranging from 5 to 21 tonnes, and articulating cranes ranging from 3.5 to 10 tonnes. Nine models of the former and eight models of the latter are to be introduced in India.

Managing director Sumit Mazumdar told Business Standard: "We will eventually be manufacturing these cranes in India, once they have been popularised." At present, the company is busy scouting for land to set up its manufacturing unit in Calcutta. The technology for the reach stackers is provided by Luna, and in return TIL pays them royalty for every unit sold. The company had to pay a front-end fee to Luna at the time of signing the agreement, but this payment can be paid in instalments over a period of seven years.

The company will also be introducing the 2 tonne, the 2.5 tonne and the 5 tonne models of fork-lift trucks this year. The company has a tie-up with the Boss Group of UK for the manufacture of these trucks. "We have plans to introduce side-lifts with a capacity ranging from 3 to 15 tonnes and very narrow aisle trucks up to a capacity of 1.5 tonnes through our alliance with Boss," said Mazumdar. The company, which had entered into an agreement with Industrial Luna of Spain for the manufacture of reach stackers, will also be introducing the Luna products in Bangladesh.

The company will be introducing three new models of grove cranes. The three new models are - the 60-tonne rough terrain crane, the 40-tonne truck mounted crane and the 18-tonne industrial crane.

TIL will also be introducing two new models through its alliance with Australian Little Bull. The two new models are the 8 tonne and the 15 tonne pick and carry cranes.
