Shardul Thakur was adjudged Player of the Match as he finished with his best IPL bowling figures. The Delhi pacer took four wickets by giving away only 36 runs and could have easily had five if David Warner did not drop an easy catch. Thakur was the reason that the match was shifted again in Delhi's favour as he got rid of the dangerous Jitesh Sharma and also removed Kagiso Rabada, who could hit big shots, in the same over.

Delhi Capitals played a brilliant game as they defeated Punjab Kings by 17 runs and remained on course to qualify for the Playoffs as they now have 14 points from 13 games. The Capitals' bowlers played the main role in this victory as they reduced the Punjab Kings to 67-6 from 53-1, giving away just 14 runs and taking five wickets in 23 balls. That was the turning point of the game. 

 

Jitesh Sharma remained the lone warrior in the chase and almost turned the game on its head as he added 39 off 26 balls for the eighth wicket with Rahul Chahar, getting the Punjab team in a striking distance, needing only 39 of the last three overs. 

 

But then a brilliant catch by David Warner, after an even brilliant effort by Rovaman Powell to deny him a sure shot six, saw his back. He made a brilliant 44 off 34 balls. From there onwards, only formalities remained and they were completed as Delhi won the game by 17 runs and move to the fourth position in the Points Table, pushing RCB down by virtue of net run rate.
