India vs England CWC 2022: India were demolished by England as they were first dismissed for paltry 134 and then the English chased it down in 31.2 overs. Charlie Dean, Heather Knight shone for them

They can take inspiration from their rivals England today, who came back in a marvellous style after three close losses. 

 

The game against Australia will be a very tough challenge no doubt. But India have been the only team in recent time to beat the Aussie in an ODI. Hence they can draw inspiration from that as well and come out fighting in Auckland. It was yet another big failure with the bat for the Indian team as it was bowled out for a minimal 134. It once again proved that if either Smriti or Harman didn't fire, the other players were not able to score against quality bowling as was evident in the match against New Zealand.

The England team started their chase in a very bad manner losing both its openers on the score of just four runs. But then, Nat Sciver and skipper Knight put up a great partnership and though Sciver got out, Knight made sure that she was there at the end to see her team home. England won the match in only 31.2 overs and raised their net run rate considerably even as they lost six wickets trying to achieve the total as quickly as possible. But it was worth it in the end

The India Women's cricket team were defeated by six wickets by England in their fourth game of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2022 at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui in Tauranga, New Zealand.

 

Charlie Dean was the star with the ball for the English team as she removed Harmanpreet Kaur and Sneh Rana in the same over and jolted the Indian team big time, finishing with match figures of 4/23. Along with her, Anya Shrubsole and Heather Knight and Nat Sciver with the bat played important roles in the win. England chased down 135 quite comprehensively.

There was no prize for guessing that Dean was named Player of the Match for her impressive bowling. She became Player of the Match in only her second World Cup game. Dean was the star with the ball for the English team as she removed Harmanpreet Kaur and Sneh Rana in the same over and jolted the Indian team big time, finishing with match figures of 4/23.

Sophie Ecclestone has pulled this over mid-wicket and it goes all the way for four. With this shot, England have now registered their first win in this World Cup 2022. Ecclestone and skipper Heather Knight remain not out as her team win this game by four wickets, but most importantly with 112 balls remaining to push their net run rate way up and bring down that of India's.

And Meghna SIngh has removed Sophia Dunkley as the batter wanted to guide down the short third-man region for four. But instead, all that the batter could manage was get an edge and Richa Ghosh behind the stumps did the rest and Meghna has yet another wicket. 

 

And another one. This is insane batting from Brunt. She could have played it well for a single or left it, but the batter goes for the pull on a ball that was always rising on her and Richa Ghosh takes yet another catch and England are now six down for 128

Four!! That is the classic cover drive from England captain Heather Knight as the English batters keep nibbling away at the target. Only 21 more are needed for the win now. 

 

Fifty for Knight!! Now that is more like it from the England captain. She was not in form coming into the World Cup and in the first three games too, she was hardly able to make any contribution. But now with this fifty, she is back in form. 

 

And at the end of the 28th over, England now need just 13 more to win

And that is a brilliant catch from Harmanpreet Kaur as she backtracks and takes the catch with one hand to dismiss Jones who was threatening to finish this game in the next couple of overs. Jones went down the crease and wanted to lift it above Harman at mid-on but wasn't able to do so at the end. The fourth wicket goes now and England still need 33 runs

Amy Jones has now come out all guns blazing as she comes down the crease and raises it above the bowler's head for a six, the first six of the England innings as it also brings up the 100 for England and now they are just 33 away from their first win of the World Cup.

In an attempt to get to her fifty quickly, Sciver tried to turn a good length ball down the leg side after having hit a four on the very previous ball. Her nudge could only find the edge of her bat and an easy catch was completed by Jhulan Goswami at short-mid-wicket and Sciver missed out on a fifty by a solitary run. England are three down and still need 66 runs

Four!! That was just sheer power from Nat Sciver as she is now motoring along here. She has hit two fours in this Sneh Rana over. One was swept hard and bisected deep square leg and deep mid-wicket. The other was thrown outside off by Rana and Sciver managed to get a heavy touch on it and it went past the short-third-man for four again. 

 

With the two fours, both England's fifty and the 50 partnership between Knight and Sciver have come up in the 15th over and England now need only 76 more runs from 35 overs. Drnbiks have been called in

The Powerplay has been done with and England have done well to not lose any more wickets after their openers departed pretty cheaply. It also saw the bizarre incident of Nat Sciver being saved by the bails as the ball hit the stumps but the bails didn't come off. The two players in the middle, Nat Sciver and Heather Knight, the vice-captain and captain are playing it easy here. 

 

India on the other hand, need to tighten the noose bit more as they have bowled well so far, giving away only 34 runs in the powerplay. But to win this one, they need wickets and need them quickly

What has transpired here? The ball hit Sciver's bat and rolls onto the stumps, but fortunately for her and unfortunately for India, the bails did not come out and neither did they lit up and as a result, she remains not out. Fortune favours the brave is what it is then

India have taken a review as the in-swinger from Jhulan Goswami comes in and hits Tammy Beaumont on the pads. From the naked eye, it looked bat and pad and the umpire gave it not out. However, Mithali Raj immediately went for the DRS and the replay showed that the ball hit pad first and would have gone on to hit the stumps and was pitching outside off and the impact was in line too. India have struck twice in two overs now and England are struggling now at 4-2 after the end of the 3rd over

The Indian team has been bowled out for a minimal 134 by the England bowlers as none of the Indian batters were able to stay at the crease for a long duration. The mood was set for England from the very start as after winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, they got three wickets in the Powerplay. Some Indian hopes were ignited after a 33 run stand between last games' heroes Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur. 

 

However, those were dashed as Charlie Dean bowled a double-wicket maiden and removed Kaur and Sneh Rana. Sophie Ecclestone removed Mandhana for 35 which is also the top score of India's innings. Dean got rid of Pooja Vastrakar too and India were reduced to 86-7 but then Jhulan Goswami and Richa Ghosh added 37 for the eighth wicket before the latter was run out. This spelt the end of the Indian innings as they were bowled out for 134 in the 37th over eventually.

And that would be it as India have been bowled out for 134 in the 37th over. It is only fair that Charlie Dean, who caused the collapse of the Indian team with the wicket of Harmanpreet Kaur takes the last Indian wicket to fall as well. Meghna Singh goes for the sweep and misses the ball completely to get bowled. She scored 3 off 12 balls and now India have been bundled out for their lowest ever total in World Cups since 2009. 

 

England will need 135 to win
