Bharatstudent.com, a social utility and network portal, will hire around 2,000 students as interns to report campus happenings and guide aspiring students trying for admissions in their schools and colleges, during this fiscal. Bharatstudent.com is a web property of Axill Europe Limited, the UK-based wholly-owned subsidiary of Northgate Technologies Limited.

"We received 18,000 applications from 2,800 institutions for the 'earn part time' section on our portal in the last two months. We have short-listed 400 students from across the country and 100 Indians studying abroad to work as interns with us," Vishnu Vardhan Induri, director of bharatstudent.com, told mediapersons here on Wednesday.

According to Anil Singh, chief financial officer, Northgate Technologies, the students would work as interns for three months, and would be retained after assessing their performance.

"While we will pay Rs 4,000 per month for the Indian interns, their counterparts abroad would earn anywhere between $300 and $500 per month," he said.

Northgate would invest around 300 million pounds (approximately Rs 25 crore) in the portal over the next two years. Of the total investment, 25 per cent would be capex, while the rest would be infused into creating visibility of the portal and marketing, he added.

The two-month-old portal, which the company claims to be the 45th most-popular site in India, has so far garnered 7.2 lakh registered users, and witnessed 30 million page views and 4 million video views per month.
