Internet security service provider Check Point Software Technologies today said it has signed an agreement to acquire Nokia's security appliance business.

"As a pioneer in security appliances, the Nokia security appliance business has been an important strategic partner for Check Point and has helped us achieve early leadership in the security appliance market," the company's Chairman and CEO Gil Shwed said in a statement.

The agreement between Check Point and Nokia is expected to close in the first quarter of 2009 subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, the company said in a statement.
