Having emptied his pockets to get a personal computer, in 1993, NIKHIL SOMAN, CTO, BigAdda, still nurtures a special place for the first true gadget on which he truly splurged. Today, he manages to whet his gadget appetite with the latest ones, and takes pride in the fact that he does not need time or manuals to make the most of his toys.

What is the geekiest thing you have ever done?
I have a passion for building remote-control toy ships and planes. and have made a handful of them to date.

Have you ever fixed a broken gadget?
As a habit, I always take pleasure in opening up gadgets to inspect and then putting it back together. So, fixing gadgets is nothing new. If any gadget malfunctions, it is up to me to mend it and bring it back to life.

What would be the perfect geeky gift for you?
I wish someone would gift me virtual reality (VR) goggles that sport two LCD screens fitted inside, and which can be connected to a laptop or a projector. That would be perfect, as the entire world will be right in front of my eyes.

Which of your gadgets makes you a proud owner?
All my gadgets have been hand-picked by me. I am very proud of all the gadgets, including my Philips 42-inch LCD TV, the LG DVD recorder, Bose Lifestyle home theatre that also doubles as an AM/FM radio (multi-room and multi-source), Sony PlayStation 2 and 3, BlackBerry 8830 World Edition and Wi-Fi, across the house. However, I am eagerly waiting the delivery of a Sony PRS 700 book reader that will make me even more proud.

What was the first true gadget you owned?
It was way back in 1993 when I emptied all my savings to buy a personal computer, and spent Rs 75,000. It was really special to me, as it was the first gadget I splurged on, and that too at a time when it was beyond my means.

Is there any technology you are in awe of?
I consider Google as a complete gadget — it has complete and ready solutions for almost everything.

What is your most stylish gadget?
At home I have a custom-styled PlayStation 3 hooked up to the home theatre, and the end result is really hip.

Which gadget do you like to show off the most?
Though all my gadgets are showstoppers, I like to show off my Bose Home Theatre with AM/FM functionality that also boasts of multi-room and multi-source setup.
