Coolpad Communications, an Indian JV with China Wireless Technologies Ltd is investing Rs 400 crore in India to set up a a research and development (R&D) centre for its CDMA mobile phone handsets. The location is yet to be finalised but is likely to be either New Delhi or Mumbai, according to company sources.
Sami Al-Lawati, Managing Director, Coolpad Communications said, "Coolpad is planning to set up an R & D centre with the investment of Rs 400 crore in two years. The centre, likely to be in Delhi or Mumbai, will be operational by the year 2011. Currently, Coolpad is importing handsets from China. However, we are trying to localise the product and a team from China is taking care of handset manufacturing."
