Coolpad Communications India, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based mobile phone manufacturer China Wireless Technologies Limited, is planning to introduce 15 more CDMA and GSM handset models in the domestic market in the next 12 months, according to its managing director Sami Al-Lawati.
“We currently have three models in the Indian CDMA market, which is pegged at 1 million units per month. With the market being primarily dominated by CDMA operators’ own sales push for high-end phones and the increasing trend of data usage on handsets, we are looking at launching more models – 2G and 3G-enabled CDMA and GSM phones powered by Linux and Android operating systems in the price bracket of Rs 2,500 to Rs 20,000,” he told mediapersons here on Tuesday.
Announcing the launch of the company's fully-loaded Android CDMA phone, D530, in the Hyderabad market, Al-Lawati said though the company’s sales in India were small until last year, they were expecting to sell 1 million units of CDMA phones in the next 12 months, primarily driven by the demand for high-value, data-enabled phones in the country.
D530 is priced Rs 7,999 and will be available through Reliance as a bundled offer as well as in the open market.
