Kerala chief minister to lay stone for the project on Nov 28

Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan will lay the foundation stone for Phase-II of Infopark Kochi at Puthencruz, near here on November 28.

The second phase, coming up on 160 acre, will become operational by December 2011.

It will offer the first low-cost plug and play BPO facility in the state and house domestic parks as well as special economic zones for IT/ITeS companies. The domestic park is aimed at creating cost-effective infrastructure for the BPO industry.

“We also plan to unveil the master plan of this phase on the same day. As the location is scenic, we have plans to promote eco-tourism and would develop a green campus here,” said Infopark Kochi CEO, Siddhartha Bhattacharya.

Phase-II, when fully operational, would generate employment for 50,000 in the IT/ITeS space. Besides, it would also have Kochi’s first major business convention centre and and an integrated IT business district. Other facilities planned include commercial and recreation zones, and a business hotel.

“We also intend to provide infrastructure like a 20 MVA substation and a 3 million litres per day water intake and treatment plant,” he added.

Infopark Kochi based at Kakkanad posted a total revenue of Rs 463 crore in 2008-09. It added 2,500 IT professionals taking the total number to 9,000 during the last financial year.
