Information technology (IT) stocks, which have lagged the domestic equity benchmark indices for some time, registered sharp gains today on the back of better-than-expected quarterly results by Infosys Technologies. While the broader index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, fell 0.59 per cent, the BSE IT index rose 3.91 per cent.
Wipro Ltd was the top gainer among IT stocks. The share rose 4.89 per cent to Rs 694.55 by close of Tuesday’s trade on the BSE. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) rose 4.88 per cent to Rs 749.10. Infosys was up 3.97 per cent at Rs 2,587.45, while HCL Technologies rose 3.68 per cent, to Rs 368.15.
