The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has signed an agreement with Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd to computerise multiple functions across the organisation. Under the agreement, MIDC will deploy Microsoft’s ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software to streamline processes in the corporation. This step is estimated to reduce about 70-80 per cent of paperwork internally, the benefit of which will boil down to consumers.
With this pact, MIDC has perhaps become the county’s first state-owned industrial body to streamline its internal processes in such a fashion.
MIDC has already computerised its water billing, land management, accounting, building proposal automation and file tracking systems.
The adoption of this package is likely to cost an estimated Rs 14 crore to the corporation. Microsoft Consulting Services will be directly implementing the ERP package in the organisation in the next 18 months and will be responsible for maintaining it for five years thereafter.
Two new portals — one for customers and the other for internal use — will be launched by the organisation as part of this initiative. “We already have a website but this new customer service portal will be more dynamic. Customers will now be able to do activities such as buying land in MIDC areas, checking tariffs, submitting applications, getting plans approved for civil infrastructure, fire safety approvals, payments and the likes online. On the other hand, employees will use the portal for having a look at work plans, service books, meetings, minutes, checking leaves etc.,” MIDC’s CFO and IT Head Milind Deshmukh told Business Standard.
The project will take about one-and-half years for development and implementation.
