Industry in Mysore is disappointed over the first Railway budget of the NDA government presented by Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda today.

Reacting to the budget, Mysore Industries Association (MIA) general secretary Sureshkumar Jain said the minister had disappointed the people of Mysore by failing to meet their long-standing demands. His smile has turned to be false for them.

The budget has made no mention of the demands of the people of this area like Chamarajanagar-Mettupalayam rail link, upgrade of the Mysore Railway Workshop, and suburban rail for industrial area. There was also no mention of the Railway Medical College announced in the last budget for Mysore.

However, Jain welcomed the announcement of running a high-speed train between Mysore-Bangalore-Chennai, six-day train service between Ramanagara and Bangalore, and completion of the Mysore-Kushalnagar railway project.

Meanwhile, Mysore-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha thanked the minister for announcing the fast-tracking of the survey work from Kushalnagar to Madikeri as part of the Mysore-Madikeri rail link.

The survey between Mysore and Kushalnagar had already been completed. The Karnataka government had agreed to share its share of the cost of the proposal. The completion of this project providing a link to Madikeri, the first rail link to Kodagu district, will give a boost to tourism, he said saying he had impressed upon Gowda on the need to complete this project.
