Huntsman International India Pvt Ltd (HIIPL), a specialty chemicals manufacturer, has been accredited as a Responsible Care company by the Indian Chemical Council (ICC) recently. Responsible Care, a world-wide initiative developed by the chemical industry, is a voluntary commitment for continuous improvement in environment, health and safety (EHS) performance. The International Council of Chemical Associations’ (ICCA) first instituted the framework for qualified chemicals manufacturing companies to adhere to the guiding principles of global Responsible Care. In India, the Indian Chemical Council adopted the initiative in 1993 to promote the principles among Indian companies, in a bid to set safety benchmarks and encourage companies to abide by them.

The initiative is driven by its guiding principles wherein chemical manufacturers strive to create sustainable development through safer products, improved people health and safety, process safety and environmental safety. The manufacturers are periodically assessed by ICC auditors for conformance with the Responsible Care principles.

Rohit Aggarwal, managing director, Huntsman - India, said, “At Huntsman, we take pride in ensuring that we adhere to the highest standards of corporate responsibility in areas of sustainability and development. EHS is an integral part of our business and the Responsible Care accreditation stands testimony to our commitment to safe and sustainable operations in India. We are extremely pleased to be among the top 40 companies in the country who have been granted the right to use of the Responsible Care logo.”

Huntsman International India Private Limited is a part of the Huntsman Corporation of USA, a global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals. HIIPL acquired the polyurethanes business in 2001 and the textile effects (TE) business in 2006.
