Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully commissioned another 660 MW coal-based supercritical thermal unit in Uttar Pradesh (UP). The unit has been commissioned at the upcoming 3 x 660 MW Prayagraj Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) at Bara in Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Notably, this is the first supercritical thermal unit in Uttar Pradesh to achieve capacity addition on attaining full load.

The greenfield thermal power project is owned by Prayagraj Power Generation Company Limited (PPGCL), a subsidiary company of Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited. The commissioning of this unit comes close on the heels of the synchronisation of two 660 MW supercritical units at Lalitpur STPP (3 x 660 MW) in UP. The units are successfully operating at maximum load as permitted by the grid.

One more 660 MW unit at Lalitpur and two units of 660 MW each at Bara are also in advanced stage of construction. In addition, one 500 MW unit at Anpara Thermal Power Station in Uttar Pradesh is also nearing completion. All these units executed by BHEL will significantly improve the power availability in Uttar Pradesh.

BHEL has already commissioned 4,410 MW of power plants in the utility sector during the financial year 2015-16 and is on track to achieve the target set by the government for the year.
