Intertek has commissioned its first electrical laboratory for testing LED and batteries in Delhi. The facility aims to comply with not just the Indian government’s regulations in LED and battery industry, but international testing standards as well.

The laboratory offers safety, certification and performance testing facilities to a host of clients from the energy storage, lighting and IT-AV industries. The portfolio of services are spread across an area of 3,000 sq. ft. divided across two floors. The ground floor provides Battery testing and Photometry services while the LED safety tests and IT-AV (2016B) lab services are situated on the first floor.

The new laboratory seeks to take advantage of the growing demand from lighting manufacturers in India as a result of the government’s National Programs for LED-based home and street lighting which seek to replace 770 million conventional bulbs with LED bulbs under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Program (DELP) and 330 m of street light under Street Light National Program (SLNP) by 2019.

Sandeep Das, director - strategy and BD, Intertek South Asia, said, “The Electrical Centre of Excellence is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities created by the Bureau of Indian Standards, Central Registration Office (BIS CRO) as it provides all the services sought by the lighting and battery industries. Depending on industry growth, the lab will be expanded to accommodate LM 80, LED chip level resting, and photobiological testing for LEDs.”

This new lab supports Intertek’s global Centers of Excellence for Lighting and Battery Testing across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

From auditing and inspection, to testing, training, advisory, quality assurance and certification, Intertek adds value for its customers by helping improve the quality and safety of their products, assets and processes.
