Reliance Defence signs sub-concession pact with Gujarat Maritime Board

Reliance Defence and Engineering Ltd, formerly Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Company Limited, has signed a sub-concession agreement (SCA)with the Gujarat Maritime Board and the Gujarat Pipavav Port granting it the right and authority to build, operate and manage defence & commercial shipyard activities at Pipavav Port in Gujarat. The SCA is for a period of 30 years expiring in June 2046.
 
Reliance Defence and Engineering claims to be the first private sector company in India to obtain a licence and contract to build warships. The facility houses the only modular shipbuilding facility with a capacity to build fully fabricated and outfitted blocks.
