The government has extended the timeline for the rollout of mandatory quality control norms for aluminium cans used in the food processing and beverages industry, providing relief to alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage makers, from cola makers to beer brewers. The move is hailed by the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage makers, who have stated that the extension order will help to bridge the gap between demand and supply before the arrival of the peak summer season. The Cookware, Utensils and Cans for Foods and Beverages (Quality Control) Order, 2026, will be implemented for large arms from October 2026, for small units from January next year, and for micro enterprises from April 2027. As per the order, these goods will have to conform to the respective Indian standards and shall bear the Standard Mark under a licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh and Goa ranked as the 'best performers' in developing a startup ecosystem for budding entrepreneurs, according to the ranking of states and Union territories by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade released on Friday. Gujarat has been ranked as the best performer for the fifth time in a row. Karnataka, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh are categorised as the top performers. The ranking is a yearly exercise under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) that evaluates all states and Union territories on their efforts to build an ecosystem conducive to startup growth. A total of 34 states and Union territories (UTs) participated in the exercise. They are ranked under five categories -- best performers, top performers, leaders, aspiring leaders and emerging startup ecosystems. The DPIIT committee on the intersection of artificial intelligence and copyright is expected to release its second working paper, on copyrightability of AI-generated content, in about two months, a senior government official said on Thursday. The committee's first paper was released on December 8, in which it proposed to give a mandatory blanket licence to artificial intelligence developers for using all legally accessed copyright-protected works to train AI systems. However, the licence should be accompanied by a statutory remuneration right for the copyright holders, according to the committee's recommendation. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has sought stakeholders' views on this paper. The government is exploring measures to curb energy consumption in the air conditioning sector, as demand in this segment is expected to spike in the coming years, a senior official said on Monday. Secretary in Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Amardeep Singh Bhatia said that in this area, the government is not only looking at introducing new technologies, but also talking about transfer of technologies to promote domestic manufacturing. "As far as the energy consumption side is concerned, there are various areas where you can reduce energy consumption. So there are a number of steps we are looking at...our energy consumption demand is going to be huge in the AC sector in the coming times," he said here at an event. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on Thursday said it has received another 13 applications with an investment commitment of Rs 1,914 crore in the fourth round of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for white goods. The application window for this round was open from 15th September 2025, till 10th November 2025. White goods are ACs and LED Lights. Among the 13 applicants, one is an existing PLI beneficiary committing an additional investment of Rs15 crore, while nine applicants have applied for manufacturing air conditioner components with a cumulative investment of Rs 1,816 crore, it said. These investments focus on producing copper tubes, aluminium stock, compressors, motors, heat exchangers, control assemblies, and other high-value components. The remaining four applicants have proposed Rs 98 crore investment for LED component manufacturing, including LED chips, drivers, and heat sinks. Proposed investments span 6 states, covering 13 .
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has reviewed 18 issues affecting 11 infrastructure projects in Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam and Nagaland, an official statement said on Thursday. The meeting, chaired by DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Bhatia, was attended by senior officials from central ministries, state governments, and project proponents. "In the meeting, 18 issues across 11 significant projects were reviewed in the state of Jharkhand, with a total cost of all projects exceeding Rs 34,213 crore," the commerce and industry ministry said. The Patratu Thermal Power Station Expansion Project Phase-I pertaining to the state of Jharkhand was reviewed in detail, it said. It added that issues on a private sector project of GeoEnpro Petroleum Ltd in Arunachal Pradesh, worth Rs 1,000 crore, were also reviewed.
