The Government of India has signed a contract for the Discovered Small Fields (DSF) Bid 2016 with GEM Laboratories for extracting Hyderocarbon at Neduvasal, in Tamil Nadu, amidst the protest from the local villagers against the proposed plan. The signing of the agreement has further increased the protest in Tamil Nadu on Monday.The award of contract was part of the contracts signed for 31 contract areas under the DSF Bid Round 2016, with the awardees at New Delhi in an event presided by Minister of State (I/C) for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan.The Minister said that the cumulative peak production from the awarded fields is expected to be around 15000 Barrels of Oil Per Day (BOPD) of oil and 2 Million Metric Standard Cubic Meter Per Day (MMSCMD) of gas over the economic life. Amidst protest against exploration of hydrocarbons in Southern Tamil Nadu, Centre today said that exploration will not affect agriculture or the soil of the entire lease area. Neduvasal, a fertile village of the Cauvery delta bordering Pudukottai and Thanjavur districts, is one of the 31 contract areas of small fields where exploration of hydrocarbons is to be taken up as per a recent decision of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
