Sembcorp Industries, headquartered in Singapore, launched its 588 MW solar power project in Oman on Friday. Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said of the Royal Family and the second son of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, inaugurated the project, the company said. The plant is Sembcorp's first greenfield renewables development project in the Middle East and also the 'largest utility-scale solar farm' in the global renewables portfolio of the company. "The inauguration of Manah 2 Solar Power Plant marks a key milestone in Sembcorp's commitment to Oman's transition to a sustainable future, and strengthening (its) partnership with Nama Power and Water Procurement Company. As Sembcorp's largest utility-scale solar plant globally, it supports Oman's Vision 2040 by advancing the nation's renewable energy targets," said Sembcorp Industries, CEO of Middle East and Chairman, South Asia, Vipul Tuli. Sembcorp Industries on Wednesday said its arm Sembcorp Green Infra has secured a 150 MW solar project coupled with a 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) from Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI). The build-own-operate Project is part of a bid for 2GW Inter-state Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar power projects with 4GWh of BESS, issued by SECI, a company statement said. Sembcorp's India unit has filed a suit in a Bengaluru court to stop Siemens Gamesa from selling country business before settling an arbitration arising from alleged default in executing a contract. In its filing before the Principal City Civil and Sessions Judge at Bengaluru, Sembcorp sought injunction over sale of the India assets of Siemens Gamesa, including its shareholding. The court issued notices to Siemens Gamesa, court documents showed. Sembcorp's India arm has filed a suit against Siemens Gamesa and its parent entity, Siemens Energy AG. Siemens Energy AG has reportedly put its India subsidiary Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy's entire India manufacturing, maintenance and services business in renewables up for sale. This is effectively seen as a country exit for Siemens Gamesa.
