The Election Commission has approved 'Telangana Rakshana Sena' as the official name of the new political party launched by K Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, from among five options submitted before it. Kavitha announced the launch of her political outfit, named 'Telangana Rashtra Sena' (TRS), on April 25. In a post on X, Kavitha said, "Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS), it is! Telangana Jagruthi president and Former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao's daughter, K Kavitha, on Saturday launched a political outfit, named 'Telangana Rashtra Sena' (TRS). Kavitha announced her party's name at an event held on the city outskirts. Kavitha was suspended from the BRS in September, 2025 after she accused her cousins and party leaders T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar of "tarnishing" her father and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao's image over the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project built during the BRS regime. Since her suspension, she has been focusing on public issues under the banner of Telangana Jagruthi, a cultural organisation she heads. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in Telangana on Monday said the availability of petrol, diesel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the state is sufficient to meet current demand. OMCs have prioritised domestic LPG distribution, ensuring uninterrupted and timely delivery of cylinders, an official release said. Currently, approximately 2.18 lakh domestic LPG cylinders are being delivered daily in Telangana, as against 2,15,151 cylinders per day before the West Asia military conflict began, indicating a stable and robust supply system, it said. Demand for petrol and diesel has moderated and is now comparable to pre-war levels. LPG refill bookings have also declined significantly, as panic-driven bookings by consumers have reduced considerably, it added. According to the State-level Coordinator for OMCs, public sector oil companies are closely monitoring the supply situation and have undertaken necessary measures to streamline logistics and expedite deliveries. Director of Census Operations in Telangana, Bharati Hollikeri, on Thursday said Census 2027 would be held in digital mode in contrast to the paper-based exercise conducted until 2011. The first phase of the exercise, involving house listing and housing census, would be conducted from May 11 to June 9, while the second phase would be taken up in February 2027, she said. As many as 88,000 personnel, including enumerators and supervisors, would be involved in the census in Telangana, though about 93,000 to 94,000 employees are being trained for the mammoth exercise. "It has a lot of uniqueness when compared to the previous censuses. When you talk about technology adoption, for the first time, we are going to enumerate in digital mode. Until the 2011 census, enumeration was paper-based," she told PTI here. The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday passed a Bill aimed at the welfare of gig workers. State Labour Minister G Vivek Venkatswamy, who moved the Telangana Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Bill, 2026, said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had met gig workers during his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' and listened to their problems. In view of the absence of job security, minimum wages and health screening for gig workers, Rahul Gandhi had suggested that the government hold a dialogue with aggregators and labour unions and enact legislation for their welfare, he said. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has said the state government is exploring policies to tax AI companies to compensate people who may lose jobs due to automation. In a virtual address to an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Symposium of Harvard Kennedy School in the US on Friday night, he described AI as a "double-edged sword", warning that risks could outweigh benefits if not managed early. Telangana's total debt, including that of its entities and government guarantees, stood at Rs 8 lakh crore as of December 2025, according to the Socio-Economic Outlook 2026 released by the state government. The state government said that from December 2023, when Congress assumed power, to the same month in 2025, the total borrowings of the state and its entities amounted to Rs 3,19,179 crore, with repayments (principal and interest) of Rs 3,04,202 crore. The repayments and loans raised by the Congress government during its nearly two and a half years in office indicate that a large share of the borrowings during that period was used to service existing debt, due to the substantial debt inherited from the pre-December 2023 period, the report said. The Telangana government on Friday presented a budget of Rs 3.24 lakh crore for the year 2026-27, up by nearly Rs 20,000 crore over the previous year, prioritising its flagship programmes such as Musi Riverfront beautification and Hyderabad Metrorail Phase 2 and 3, besides fulfilment of poll promises. In yet another incident of stray dog killings, nearly 100 canines were allegedly "poisoned to death" in Mancherial district, police said. An animal welfare activist, A Goutham, in a complaint to police, stated that on the intervening night of March 7-8 around 100 stray dogs were killed in Kishtapur village. The complainant, working as Cruelty Prevention Manager with the Stray Animal Foundation of India (NGO) accused that the Sarpanch and Gram Panchayath Secretary of Kishtapur village, hired two persons and killed the stray dogs by giving poisonous injections and buried them near a river. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of BNS and Prevention of Cruelty of Animals Act at Jannaram police station against the Sarpanch and Gram Panchayath, police said, adding that further investigation is on. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to purchase only electric vehicles henceforth for any government department as part of measures to check pollution. Vikas Kumar Sakhare, who played an active role in the offence, was arrested at his residence here on Wednesday, CID Additional Director General Charu Sinha said in a release. The case pertains to "unauthorised" collection of deposits wherein the accused "cheated" the depositors, by developing Falcon Invoice Discounting Application and created fake deals in the names of reputed MNCs, induced the depositors under the pretext of high interest rates and collected about Rs 4,215 crores from 7,056 depositors. Out of that, 4,065 people were cheated to the tune of Rs 792 crores by the Capital Protection Force Private Ltd, working under Falcon Invoice Discounting App, it said.
