The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has sent a formal invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the consecration of the idol of Lord Rama in the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Temple January next year, a trust member said on Thursday. The trust will extend invitations to around 10,000 guests for the ceremony.

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm on Thursday as Opposition parties continued to protest on the Manipur issue.

The Opposition has used a parliamentary tool of no-confidence motion to express its lack of confidence in the government but this time they are using it to compel Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a statement in the House on the Manipur issue that has stalled the Parliament for five consecutive days.

The Parliamentary Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has slammed the government over the reduction in allocation for MGNREGA, saying it could hamper the work being done under the rural employment scheme. The panel also pulled up the Department of Rural Development for not explaining the reason behind the cut in allocation.

Consensus required for women's reservation bill: Govt

The women's reservation bill requires "careful consideration" on the basis of consensus among all political parties before it is brought to Parliament, the government said in Rajya Sabha on Thursday. In a written reply to a question, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said gender justice is an important commitment of the government.

"The issue involved needs careful consideration on the basis of the consensus among all political parties before a Bill for amendment in the Constitution is brought before Parliament," he said.

Street violence in J-K has ended: LG Manoj Sinha

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said the street violence in Jammu and Kashmir has ended and an era of peace has dawned in the Union Territory.

He said there were elements who would frequently call for strikes in Kashmir, resulting in loss of business and academic opportunities.

"The street violence has ended in Jammu and Kashmir. Those people are not seen anymore who were responsible for the street violence. I understand that they were victims of some people," Sinha said, addressing a conference on Sufism here.

Kanjawala hit and run case: Court orders framing of charges against 7 accused

A sessions court here Thursday ordered the framing of charges against seven accused in the hit-and-run case where a 20-year-old woman was dragged to death while trapped under a car in the national capital on new year's day.

Additional Sessions Judge Neeraj Gaur ordered the framing of charges against Amit Khanna, Krishan, Manoj Mittal and Mithun, who were in the offending car, under IPC sections 302 (murder), 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender) and 212 (harbouring offender).

Amit Khanna has also been charged with negligent driving.

While discharging the three other co-accused- Ashutosh Bhardwaj, Ankush and Deepak Khanna- of the charge of criminal conspiracy, the court ordered framing of charges against the trio under IPC sections 182 (false information with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person), 34 (common intention), 201 and 212.
