Talking to farmers in Purnea, Rahul Gandhi said that they are being 'gheraoed' from all directions. 'Your land is being snatched away. Land is taken from you and given as a gift to big industrialists like Adan,' the Congress leader said.

A dense fog blanketed parts of Delhi-NCR this morning. Commuter traffic is facing difficulties as visibility has been badly affected. According to the India Meteorological Department, Delhi currently has a temperature of 11.4 degrees Celsius at 5.30 am. The IMD said that shallow fog was experienced in isolated pockets of Delhi on Monday night. Several flights have been delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport due to low visibility. Trains are also running late at the New Delhi Railway Station.

The Consulate General of India in Atlanta has strongly criticised the incident of the fatal attack on a 25-year-old Indian student. The Consulate informed that US authorities have arrested the accused and are currently investigating the case. Vivek Saini, who recently earned an MBA degree in the US, was hammered to death by a homeless drug addict. Saini had been helping the homeless man for the past couple of days in Georgia state's Lithonia city. The brutal incident was caught on camera when assailant Julian Faulkner mercilessly hit Saini almost 50 times on the head with a hammer.

Sports Ministry warns of legal action against suspended WFI president

The Sports Ministry on Tuesday warned of legal action against suspended Wrestling Federation of India president Sanjay Singh for making "absolutely baseless and mischievous" claims with regard to government recognition to WFI and reiterated that any tournament organised by the body shall be treated as "unsanctioned".
 
Last Saturday, Sanjay Singh claimed that around 700 grapplers would participate in the Senior National Championship in Pune from January 29-31, a statement that did not go down well with the ministry, which had suspended the national federation just three days after the formation of its new body for violating its own constitution.

RS chairman revokes suspension of 11 opposition MPs held guilty of breach of privilege: Sources

The Rajya Sabha Privileges Committee on Tuesday held 11 suspended opposition MPs guilty of breach of privilege and contempt of the Council of States, but Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar revoked their suspension allowing them to attend the Budget session, sources said.
 
In its report to the Rajya Sabha chairman a day before the session starts on Wednesday, the committee also recommended that the period of suspension already suffered by the members be treated as "sufficient punishment" for the transgression.
 
The MPs held "guilty of breach of privilege and contempt of the Council" of States are Jebi Mather Hisham, L Hanumanthaiah, Neeraj Dangi, Rajmani Patel, Kumar Ketkar, G C Chandrashekhar, Binoy Viswam, Sandosh Kumar P, M Mohamed Abdulla, John Brittas and A A Rahim.
 
The committee presented the report to Dhankhar, taking note of the situation that the suspended members would not be able to attend the special address of President Droupadi Murmu to both Houses of Parliament, the first address in the new building of Parliament, on Wednesday.
 
The committee usually submits its recommendations to the House.
 
The sources said the chairman invoked the authority vested in him under the rules of procedure to revoke their suspension enabling the members to attend the special address by the president.
 
The matter of 11 MPs suspended by the chairman during the Winter session of Parliament were referred to the Privileges Committee.

Jaswant Singh's daughter-in-law killed, son injured in car accident

Congress leader Manvendra Singh's wife was killed and the former MP and his son injured when their car met with an accident in Alwar on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, officials said.
 
Manvendra Singh, who is son of former Union minister Jaswant Singh, and his family were on their way to Jaipur from Delhi. The driver lost control of the car and collided with a wall.

Tripura govt nod for 51 new ration shops

The Tripura government has decided to give licences for 51 new fair price shops in the state, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Tuesday.
 
At present, there are 1,060 fair price shops and 9.76 lakh ration card holders in the eight districts of the state.
 
"The government has decided to provide 51 new dealerships of fair price shops to improve the service delivery system for ration card holders. Under the new guidelines, there will be a new ration shop for 400 ration cards," Chowdhury said.
 
Each ration shop at present serves 900-1,200 ration card holders, which inconveniences people to get ration materials on time, he said.
