India's capital markets witnessed remarkable retail participation in FY25, with over 84 lakh new active demat accounts added on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), a 20.5 per cent year-on-year increase, taking the total tally to 4.92 crore.
At the forefront of this growth are two digital brokerages -- Groww and Angel One -- which together accounted for over 57 per cent of these net additions.
Groww emerged as the single-largest contributor, adding 34 lakh new accounts -- a 40 per cent share of NSE's growth. Its active client base rose from 95 lakh in March 2024 to 1.29 crore in March 2025, reflecting a sharp 36 per cent year-on-year increase.
Groww's market share rose from 23.28 per cent to 26.26 per cent during the same period, according to NSE data.
Angel One added 14.6 lakh accounts during FY25, contributing 17.38 per cent to NSE's overall growth. The platform's active user base climbed to 75.7 lakh, with a market share of 15.38 per cent.

A team of 30 scientists from India's premier institute, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), has submitted a proposal to the government to develop 'angstrom-scale' chips, far smaller than the smallest chips currently in production.
The team has submitted the proposal to the government for developing technologies using a new class of semiconductor materials, called 2D Materials, that could enable chip sizes as small as one-tenth of the smallest chips currently in global production and develop India's leadership in semiconductors.
Currently, semiconductor manufacturing is dominated by silicon-based technologies, led by advanced nations such as the US, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
"A team of scientists at IISc submitted a detailed project report (DPR) to the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) in April 2022, which was revised and submitted again in October 2024. The report was later shared with the Ministry of Electronics and IT. The project promises to develop angstrom-scale chip

The LPG Distributors Association on Sunday threatened an indefinite countrywide strike if their demands, including higher commission, are not met in three months.
This decision was taken at the national convention of the association in Bhopal on Saturday, its president BS Sharma said in a release.  "A proposal has been approved by the members from various states about the charter of demands. We have also written to the Petroleum of National Gas Ministry about the demands of LPG distributors. The present commission being given to LPG distributors is very low and it is not commensurate with the operational cost," he said.  As per the letter to the Union government, the commission on LPG distribution should be increased to at least Rs 150.  "LPG supply is based on demand and supply. But oil companies are forcibly sending non-domestic cylinders to distributors without any demand, which is against legal provisions. It should be stopped immediately. There are also problems in distribution .

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Friday presented a Rs 40,187 crore-budget for the megapolis.
Infrastructure spends across projects have been pegged at Rs 35,151 crore or 87 per cent of the overall expenditure, as per an official statement. The revenues have been estimated at Rs 36,939 crore, and the body chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will be borrowing Rs 22,000 crore.
This will result in a budget deficit of Rs 3,249 crore, which the body plans to bridge through land sales, issuance of bonds, financial assistance from the government, and loans from financial institutions, the statement said.
The ongoing metro line projects have been earmarked Rs 10,969 crore of expenditure in the new fiscal, which is a fourth of the overall expenditure..

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday returned the Finance Bill 2025 to the Lok Sabha, along with 35 government amendments, including one that abolishes a 6 per cent digital tax on online advertisements, thus completing the 2025-26 budgetary exercise that started on February 1.
The House also returned the Appropriation Bill (3) with a voice vote.
Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had moved the two bills in the House.
The Lok Sabha had passed the Finance Bill on March 25 and passed the Appropriation Bill on March 21.
Replying to the debate later in the evening, she said the tendency of the finance ministry would be to exercise caution and not let go of revenues.
"But, here we wanted to use this opportunity to show our respect for Indian taxpayer. We have moved towards setting Rs 12 lakh as threshold up to which no one will have to pay any tax," Sitharaman said.
