Germany, Turkey vow to end spat

Germany/Turkey, Jan 07 (ANI): Germany and Turkey's foreign ministers have agreed to pull out all the stops to improve ties that have soured due to disputes over Ankara's post-coup crackdown and the arrests of German citizens in Turkey. The chill between NATO allies Germany and Turkey appears to be thawing.

Earlier, they turned on each other over multiple disputes including Ankara's post-coup crackdown, the migrant crisis, and the arrests of German citizens and journalists in Turkey. Now, signs of a return to normal were visible during an apparently warm meeting between the two countries' foreign ministers.

While what exactly went down at this meeting hasn't been confirmed, but there have been a number of sticking points. The migrant crisis perhaps being most notable.

Turkey is a gatekeeper for migrants attempting to enter central Europe. Berlin also upset Turkey by granting asylum to Turkish nationals accused of participating in the 2016 coup attempt, which saw thousands of arrests.
