Tokyo, Sept 03 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Japanese Emperor Akihito as he paid a courtesy visit to the Japanese Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The two leaders discussed bilateral and multilateral issues. Earlier, Modi inaugurated a cultural centre named after Indian philosopher Vivekananda at the Indian embassy and also visited a painting exhibition. Japan and India agreed to strengthen defence and economic ties as Asia's second and third biggest economies keep a wary eye on a rising China, with Modi lashing out at the "expansionism" of some nations. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Modi agreed to look into upgrading a 'two-plus-two' format for security talks by bringing together their foreign and defence ministers, and directed officials to launch working level talks on defence equipment and technology cooperation.
