AirAsia India reported a net profit of Rs 132.3 million in October-December quarter 2017, its first since launch in June 2014.

Revenue grew 91 per cent to Rs 5.17 billion in fourth quarter 2017 on the back of increase in capacity and rise in average fares.

The airline's result was also boosted by other income which grew three fold to Rs 146 million during the period.

"We will be adding 7 aircraft for our India operations by the end of 2018 to fulfill strong air travel demands. We will launch our international and regional routes with the 21st aircraft this year. We foresee AirAsia India to be very profitable once we start flying regional routes and connecting them to our already established wide network," airline's group CEO Tony Fernandes said.

Separately the airline also announced induction of its 16th aircraft and launch of two new destinations - Nagpur and Indore.
