BC Tripathi may get a second term as Gail CMD

Tripathi's term as Gail India Chairman and MD was to expire in July 31, 2014.

Ten months before his term expires, Gail India Chairman and Managing Director, B C Tripathi, has been recommended by the Ministry for Petroleum and Natural Gas for a second term at the company. Gail is nation's biggest natural gas distributor.
 
Tripathi, considered the youngest chairman of a Navaratna PSU, took over the reins of Gail at the age of 49 on August 1, 2009.
 
Tripathi's term as Gail India Chairman and MD was to expire in July 31, 2014.

"Tripathi's file has been sent for clearance from anti-corruption watchdog CVC, and would then be forward to the Cabinet Committee on Appointments (ACC)," said an official from the ministry.
 
Ministry sources however, added that Tripathi may have to sit for interview for Indian Oil Corporation's Chairman's post.
 
"He is doing a very good job as GAIL CMD. The process of giving him a second term would take at least five to six months. But it is under serious consideration of the ministry," the official added.
 
IOC chairman RS Butola's term expires next May. Apart from him, D K Saraf, the chairman-elect of ONGC Ltd was also in the race to become IOC chairman.

Prior to taking over as CMD, Tripathi served as Director of Marketing at Gail. Tripathi is a Mechanical Engineer from NIT Allahabad, formerly known as Moti Lai Nehru Regional Engineering College, Allahabad.
