Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited's (BHEL) Tiruchy and Ranipet units today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras for industrial consultancy, sponsored research projects and joint development.
The MoU was signed by V Ananthakrishnan, executive director, BHEL Trichy and Job Kurian, Dean, Industrial consultancy and Scientific Research, IIT Madras. A V Krishnan, executive director, BHEL Ranipet signed it on the behalf of Ranipet unit at Chennai today.
The MoU will facilitate collaborations for around five years.
During the last fiscal, BHEL spent over Rs 650 crore in research and development which is 2.6 per cent of its turnover. BHEL would invest the same per cent in the present fiscal also for such research and development programmes, said the company officials.
The research will focus on once-through super critical steam generators, modelling and analysis, fuel cells and bio mass, zero emission technologies and frontier technologies including nano materials.
While speaking on the significance of research programmes, Ananthakrishnan said that the company has achieved a turnover of Rs 5,404 crore from products developed in house.
