Big Music and Home Entertainment, the home entertainment arm of Reliance ADAG, is looking at developing content for corporates, and is bullish on the digital platform for its home video and music labels, thereby creating newer revenue earning channels going forward.
The company is also bullish on non-film content and artist management for the regional markets, as well as developing original content for telecom and internet companies, in an attempt to garner 50 per cent market share of the Bengali movies and music.
Speaking to Business Standard, Soumen Chatterjee, general manager - east, said, “Apart from music videos, VCDs and DVDs, we are also looking at other channels to reach out to a wider audience. A lot of consumers watch movies on the internet. Home entertainment itself has branched out to more than just DVDs and VCDs.”
The company will leverage the digital platform for digital downloads of its content, whereby consumers can walk into a store and download Big’s content on a CD or mobile for pre-decided charges.
The company may leverage Reliance Webworld to facilitate availability of its digital content to consumers or it may look at tying-up with other retailers in the city. It would take another four months for the company to take a final call.
The company is also looking at developing original content for other telecom or internet companies.
“Content development for other companies will be another revenue earning channel for us going forward. We could create ringtones, caller tunes for them, or create similar content around a company tagline,” Chatterjee pointed out.
Big Music and Home Entertainment will also get into artist management. The company plans to find talent and organise platforms for them to showcase their talent.
The company plans to launch around four Bengali music albums and about 30 Bengali videos per month. The company is bullish on non-film music content and will therefore launch music compilation albums.
“We have a bank of more than 60 Bengali films currently. We would look at a few of the most popular music and compile them into one. The compilation market is a significant area for us to tap. A lot of local music stores already sell compilations on order. We plan to tap this segment too,” Chatterjee said.
