Century Plyboards reported a 75 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 14 crore on the back of sales of Rs 113 crore in the second quarter (Q2) ended September 30 in the current financial year 2007-08 (FY0708).
 
Consolidated turnover in Q2 increased from Rs 182 crore in Q2 of FY2007-07 to Rs 239 crore and consolidated net profit from Rs 30 crore to Rs 36 crore.
 
Sajjan Bhajanka, managing director of Century, attributed the improved margins to increased production capacity at all existing plants through optimal utilization of infrastructure.
 
Century would start marketing of imported MDF and particle board and then start manufacturing it in the country once its MDF plants with capacity of 400 tons per day in Punjab & Uttarakhand were commissioned.
 
It would establish MDF plants in other states too.
 
Its proposed merger with plywood producers Sharon Veneers, Sharon Wood Industries and Century Panels had been approved by all shareholders and was awaiting approval from respective High Courts.
 
The merger would give the company manufacturing locations in North and South India, cutting down logistic costs and adding to plywood capacity. Greenfield projects, brown field expansions, mergers and acquisitions were on the cards, he added.
 
Century made plywood and veneer at its manufacturing unit at Bishnupur near Kolkata covering the entire range of commercial, marine, concrete, shuttering and decorative plywood as also hi"�pressure laminates, pre-laminated particle board and MDF.
