The overall investment in the joint venture (JV) would be Rs 250 crore spread over two years. Unitek will invest 30 per cent of the amount, while Xenitis will provide the rest, Gary Lim, vice president, Unitek group, said.
The equity ratio would be 70:30, though senior official were unable to provide the debt-equity ratio for the investment. "Unitek is a $500 million company that supplies computer components. After conducting intensive research, Unitek has decided to set up its first Indian manufacturing unit in West Bengal," said Lim.
Unitek chairman Son Yong met chief minister Buddhabeb Bhattacharjee regarding this joint venture this morning. "The chief minister's response was overwhelming. We have been assured all sort of support from the government," he added.
The manufacturing unit spread over 10 acres is expected to be operational by February 2005. It would have a capacity of producing around 50 thousand personal computers (PC) every year.
The Chinsurah unit would also cater to the demand for computer components from other parts of India and neighbouring countries, Santanu Ghosh, director, Xenitis, said.
The joint venture has set itself a turnover target of Rs 1000 crore by 2007 and hopes to provide employment to over 6000 people.
Xenitis reported a turnover of Rs 45 crore during 2003-04 and has set up a target of Rs 125 crore for this financial year, barring this JV, informed Ghosh.
